1. I started my programme with the intention of writing my thank you letters as I went along. As you have probably guessed from my long silence, this ideal was tarnished very quickly. So I am writing now, in slight shame of the delay, to thank you for the very full programme your department laid on for me on 13 November and the splendid lunch which ended it. I am most grateful.

2. Indeed, I hope I can return the favour when next you visit London. I cannot guarantee

so good a meal or so wide a view.
