Please forgive me for not having written earlier to thank you for a most enjoyable lunch. I started my programme in Hong Kong with the intention of writing my thank you letters as I went along, but the idea was tarnished very quickly. But I am nonetheless very grateful and look forward to returning the favour when you next come to London (though I doubt I can offer anything nearly as good as the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club). My Office telephone number is 233 4777.
You might like to know that Charles, who raised the subject, didn't seem in the least worried that you had gone ahead and bought a junk without him. Indeed he seemed a bit concerned that you might be annoyed with him for having sat on the fence for so long.
