Visits from China
4. The following three visits proposals have been "on our books'
for some time.
(a) A visit by Mr Wu Teh, Chairman of the Peking Revolutionary
Municipal Committee.
(b) A Parliamentary "delegation" from the National People's
Congress. This idea was originally put forward by the Anglo/Chinese Parliamentary Group here, and we undertook to give it financial support.
(c) HM Ambassador in Peking recommended recently that a group
of Chinese Frovincial Leaders should be invited.
5.
All three proposals are hanging fire at the moment, probably due to the uncertain political situation in China.
Visits from Hong Kong
6. We are writing to Hong Kong suggesting that four Members of the Legislative Council should be invited as Category I
visitors.
7. In addition, we have told the Hong Kong Government Office
that we can offer Category III assistance to any visitors from Hong Kong who might come here privately.
