You will remember our discussion of the possibility of members of the Department visiting Hong Kong.

1.

2. We now have financial authority for Derek Milton to visit Hong Kong for about two weeks, and it occurs to me that there might be advantage in his coming out to familiarise himself with the situation in the second half of June. If you consider this desirable and the timing suits, I would be grateful for a short telegram so that we can make the necessary arrangements.

3.

Naturally we leave the programme entirely to your people who did such a splendid job for me last October. I am quite confident of their ability to devise a programme combining instruction with pleasure in appropriate dosages.

4. Should the timing not be convenient, no great harm would be done. We could easily arrange for him to come out in, say, September. But, as you know, I am also anxious that Robin Janvrin should also learn something of the situation on the spot and the sooner we can fit Derek in, the better from our point of view.
