I might say that I heard constant complaints that Leyland's buses are not properly designed for Hong Kong's needs and are frequently to be seen breaking down.
British companies in Hong Kong
Mr Kinnear said that in his view not enough British companies had their own representatives in Hong Kong; too many rely on agents. The Hutchison Group operated as an agency for many British firms. The Cohen 600 Group was an exception since it had its own representa- tive and so too was ICI, whose new and vigorous representative was trying to recover some of his company's previous very large share of the Hong Kong chemicals market.
Future of the Hong Kong Trade Advisory Group
I told Mr Kinnear that we were at one with him in considering. that it would be a mistake to merge the HKTAG with the South East Asia Trade Advisory Group. (Mr O'Keeffe's minute of 14 June and Mr Kinnear's letter of 11 June to Mr Roberts, DOT.).
