(b) SENIOR SECONDARY EDUCATION

--

FORMS IV to VI

Comment The policy aim is to provide Form I places for all who wish to complete a course of subsidized secondary education. Figures in this table assume a demand for Form I places

netted down to 85% of Primary VI leavers, since current experience indicates that this percentage represents the proportion of those Primary VI leavers who actually wish to go on to complete secondary education courses. However, arrangements exist, whereby any demand above 85% will be met by the purchase of additional places in private independent schools.

See also statement below Purther development of education".

* Secondary School Entrance Examination which will be discontinued from 1978/79.

Comment

The 1974 White Paper "Secondary Education in Hong Kong over the Next Decade" stated the intention to provide sufficient places in senior secondary forms in the public sector for 40% of the 15-16 age group by 1979; and that one-third of pupils entering Form IV should obtain places in lower form VI.
