During our discussions with you on the occasion of your recent visit to Hong Kong, we mentioned among other things the provision of published material on statistics to the FCO.
2.
We showed you a list of what we have been sending to the FCO and to what department. I attach a copy of this at Enclosure I. We agreed that the address list was ? in some cases, somewhat antiquated and that it would be best if in the future we send copies of documents to two offices only the Hong Kong Department and the Ministry of Overseas Development (it so happens that I saw Ken Henderson, Director of Statistics in the Ministry, in Tehran recently and he confirmed that, from their point of view in ODM, this made sense). We would need however to know how many copies of documents you would require you will observe in some casen (for example the Monthly Digest of Trade Statistics, certain trade publications etc.) we have been sending more than one copy to more than one office in the past.
3.
The second point we discussed related to what you have not been receiving but would like to. At Enclosure II to this letter is a list of existing stencilled reports which we think you might like to see and one printed publication which you would automatically see when it comes off the press. I am sending one copy each of the stencilled reports to you by separate mail so that you can see the sort of thing they are. We would of course keep an eye open for any future material of this kind which becomes available.
4.
So, two things :-
5.
(i) could you let us know how many copies of the various publi-
cations you would like to be sent to the Hong Kong Department?
(ii)
when you have had a chance to see them, can you let us know which of the reports listed in Enclosure II you would like to see on a regular basis and in what numbers?
I am writing to Ken Henderson at ODM separately, sending him a
oopy of this letter.
