b) The Hong Kong Polytechnic (a new

institution) will have increased from the

equivalent of 1834 full-time day places

in September 1972, largely taken over from

the Technical College which formed its

nucleus, to 7691 by September '78; and it

is expected to build up to 10,000 by

'80/81.

c) In addition, since 1973 one Teachers'

Training College has been reprovisioned

and expanded and one new college has been

opened to meet the demand for technical

teachers. The capacity in teacher-training

colleges is now 3650 and is unlikely to

require increase.

d) In addition to the institutions in (a)

to (c) there are 4,000 odd places in

the three principal post-secondary colleges.

So the total number of places for tertiary and

further education by September 1978 will be about

24,000 which compares with about 15,500 in 1972.
