TWO FARLIAMENTARY QUESTIONS ON THE HONG KONG UNDERGROUND RAILWAY

1. Mr AP Costain (Folkestone and Hythe) has tabled two questions for written answer on 22 July regarding the construction of the Hong Kong mass transit railway (MTK).

2. Mr Costain is Treasurer of the Hong Kong Farliamentary Group. He was Chairman of Richard Costain Ltd from 1966-69. Although the Costain Group incurred a heavy loss over the contract for the cross harbour tunnel in Hong Kong, these two questions on the MTR appear to be factual and straightforward.

3. I recommend that the Minister should be advised to reply on the lines of the attached draft replies which have been agreed by the Government of Hong Kong.
