NOTES FOR SUPPLEMENTARIES

RESEARCH PROGRAMMES BEING CARRIED OUT BY THE NARCOTICS AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION DIVISION

A Standing Committee was established in May this year to

consider and make recommendations about the treatment and

rehabilitation of drug addicts, about all proposals for the development, expansion and/or modification and coordination of

treatment and rehabilitation programmes undertaken both by Government and other agencies and about research activities.

Dr R G Newman, a visiting consultant from the United States, visited Hong Kong earlier this year to examine and advise on the overall drug treatment, rehabilitation and research programmes in Hong Kong. Dr Newman's report is now being studied.

PROGRESS OF STUDIES INTO THE USE OF METHADONE MAINTENANCE

The two pilot schemes are due to be completed by Pecember 1975 and evaluation on the results produced will take place thereafter.

PRO RESS OF ACUPUNCTURE RESEARCH PROGRAMME

To date, ninety-nine patients have participated or are participating in the Acupuncture Research Programme. of research has not yet been determined.
