Medical and Dental Expenses

In accordance with Civil Service Regulation 2032(b), you will be eligible for the same medical benefits as are applicable to British Embassy staff in Paris. The current Diplomatic Service medical scheme provides for treatment comparable to that provided by the National Health Service in the United Kingdom and proposals for anything beyond this (e.g. expensive dental treatment) must be referred to the Hong Kong Commissioner, London.

(g) Education Allowance s

In respect of your child's education in Paris, you will be able to claim reimbursement of the difference between the cost to you of sending your child to a Government Junior school for English speaking children in Hong Kong and fees of a suitable day school in Paris, but excluding the cost of meals.

(h) Leave

You will continue to earn casual and vacation leave as if you were serving in Hong Kong. Any casual leave taken during your posting must be notified to the Commissioner of Police so that your leave record in Hong Kong may be debited. During your posting the provisions of Civil Service Regulation 2030(b) & (c) will apply.

(i) Duty and Leave Passages

These will be at economy class air rates.

(j) Local living allowance, entertainment

allowance and language study

No local cost of living allowance or entertainment allowance will be paid, nor will the Government meet the cost of language courses for yourself and your wife. However, you will be permitted to retain the sum of French Francs 1,200 payable monthly by the Interpol Secretariat in respect of your attachment.

(k) Exchange Rates

In respect of such of your emoluments drawn in Paris, the exchange rate will be whatever is being used at that time by the British Embassy in Paris for allowance and salary based transactions. The Director of Accounting Services advises that the salary and allowances payable in Hong Kong dollars will be converted initially to pounds sterling which is then converted to French francs because the exchange rate used in the British Embassy is that between
