Dear Bahan.
PROPOSED POSTING OF A HONG KONG POLICE SUPERINTENDENT TO INTERPOL, PARIS
1.
You will wish to know, if you have not already heard, that the Hong Kong Government are proposing to send a Royal Hong Kong Police Force Superintendent on a 21 year posting to the Interpol Secretariat. This is being arranged at the request of the Secretary- General of Interpol who visited Hong Kong last year.
The person concerned will probably take up his post next month and he will be employed in studying cases of illicit drug traffic, especially those concerning south-east Asia. Hong Kong hope that this will help to improve their liaison with Interpol, particularly in the field of drug syndicates and illicit narcotics traffic.
2.
For houskeeping purposes (drawing of his salary, allowances etc.) the officer will probably be informally attached to our Embassy in Paris. We think it may also be necessary for the Interpol Secretariat to regard him as a UK secondment, and they will no doubt be in touch with you if they see any problem.
"Tacers sencerely
