Flight returned from Saigon, again empty.
Dr HUANG rang to say that he had convened press conference for following afternoon at 2 pm.
Met with Casella at his hotel and after discussion, agreed that he would not bring any further flights to Hong Kong without carrying stranded Hong Kong belongers, At his insistence handed him letter to this effect.
Agreed with Cathay Pacific as handling agents that only Red Cross medicines from Canada should be loaded on flight to Saigon.
Informed Red Cross office of action being taken by Cathay Pacific and left message for Casella.
Informed by Cathay Pacific that French pilot was claiming that we were about to force refugees on the plane. · Tried again to get hold of Casella.
Permission given to Air Traffic Control for plane to depart.
Spoke to Governor about the complaints by Jackson that plane was being delayed,
Spoke to Jackson, assured him that refugees were not being forced on the plane and urged Casella to board so that it could leave.
Asked Director of Civil Aviation to make sure that plane was cleared to fly.
Plane took off.
