Dear Chapman, спартам,

VIETNAMESE REFUGEES IN HONG KONG

1.

NEX

REF.

Thank you for your letter of 12 June to Lawrence O'Keeffe who is at present on sick leave.

2.

You will now have seen Hong Kong telegrams 595 and 606 confirming that the Austrians have agreed to take a hundred refugees from Hong Kong. This is very welcome news and I should be grateful if you would express our appreciation to the Heal of the Asian and African Department at the MFA. It would also be useful, if you see no objection, if you could say that we would find it particularly helpful if they could accept some of the people in the categories described in paragraph 2 of Hong Kong telegram No 606 (single men and families in which one member had a medical disability requiring further treatment but not hospitalization).

3. As you may know the UNHCR representative in Vienna, Jackson may now almost certainly be going to Hong Kong in the near future. You may like some background on UNHCR's involvement in Hong Kong and I am enclosing a selection of the telegrams on this.

Yours

ever,

лив
