There is, however, now every indication that at the end of the time there will be a hard core of some 1,000 to 1,500 refugees left. I think we must make it plain that this £50,000 is the limit of the support we are prepared to provide and that thereafter these refugees become, like the refugees from Red China, the responsibility of the Government of Hong Kong.
I recommend that we acquiese in the grant of a further £50,000 on this basis.
