1. Some 4,000 Vietnamese refugees are temporarily accommodated in Hong Kong while permanent homes are sought for them. We have approached the governments of a number of countries with whom some of the refugees have claimed connections. These include the US, Canada, France, FRG, Italy, Denmark and Belgium. We naturally hope that all governments will take a liberal attitude since Hong Kong, with its own demographic problems, cannot be expected to assume this burden, bearing in mind its commitment to accept many thousands of Chinese immigrants every year.
