C. HOME ENVIRONMENT
The family owns a flat at No. 29 Man Yiu Building, 18/F, Ferry Street, with telephone No. 3-301985. They bought the premises 4 years ago. The flat consists of 4 small cubicles and a tiny sitting room. It was orderly kept with simple furniture. They sub-let one cubicle to another family for $300 a month. Before moving into the present flat they used to live at a low cost estate at Valley Road, Hung Hom. The premises was rather crowded for two families.

The Prisoner claimed to have no connection with any triad society. He used to be in company with either former neighbours at Valley Road Low Cost Estate or fellow workers. The co-defendents in the case were either former neighbours or fellow workers. Sometimes he would go to night clubs with employer.

(Relevant to the Prisoner's conduct and working attitude)
1. CHAN Cheong, M/54 (the Prisoner's father)
The father revealed that the Prisoner was not a bad character before. His relationship with siblings had been good and harmonious with other family members. Because he had kidney trouble for several years intermittently and had been hospitalised in different hospitals, his parents worried more about his health than his behavour. Before he was arrested for the offence the father could sense nothing wrong with his behaviour. He did not stay outside in the evening nor returned home late after midnight. The father said all the family members were shocked by, the Prisoner's offence.
2. MAN Yin, F/47 (the prisoner's mother)
The mother was of the opinion that the Prisoner was not a lazy character. Since he was fully recovered from kidney ailment he worked for most of the time and had come financial support to the family. As he did not manifest any behavioural problem before, his parents exercised very little control on his behaviour. They also failed to give him proper guidance or supervision.
3. CHAN Pak-ki, M/27 (the Prisoner's brother)
The brother stated that as he had to work over-night on board so he had very little time to spend together with the Prisoner in the recent years. They seldom went out to play together therefore he knew very little of what the Prisoner was doing outside or with whom he associated. The brother said that before coming out to work the Prisoner was not a bad boy. the times he thought the Prisoner was an honest person.
