happened to be aware of the constant conflicts between the Prisoner and his father on subjects of giving nuisance to the family and of not supporting the family finance, etc. Mr. YUEN opined, however, that the Prisoner was afterall not so bad and that he was in fact submissive in character as observed when he was once bullied by someone in the street, the Prisoner did not react in an aggressive

manner.

10. Mr. KONG Chi-tak (Neighbour, residing at Rm. 423, Valley

Road Estate, Block 16, Hunghom.)

Mr. KONG and the Prisoner came to know each other in the football playground. He only commented that the Prisoner was cooperative with everyone and helpful to his fellow friends. The Prisoner had brought home dirty sport-shirts of their team for washing after each match as this volunteer service was declined by the others, and this, he realized, had caused clash between the Prisoner and his family.

F. INTERVIEW WITH THE PRISONER

The Prisoner was interviewed in Stanley Prison on 13.12.74. He had a calm disposition, apparently, and disclosed that it was his debts which forced him into such a plot. Indeed, it was also his indulgence in gambling which led him to accumulate debts. Some of his friends lent him money after he had lost all his own and, as he said, some of them were later with him in the same crime. He believed it was just a momentary push that put him into the present predicament.

G. SUMMARY

it was natural and obvious that the Prisoner finally got himself ending up in going astray with his undesirable associates who were the main elements in shaping his behaviour and conduct. What the comment about his submissiveness and his genuine interest in football might be a grain of truth. It was agreeable with the Prisoner, neverthe- less, that the actual impulse for the robbery plot and the subsequent offences could be traced to his loss of sense on the gambling table.
