SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT
The Prisoner used to live with his family before 1973. His family originally lived in a private tenement in Tokwawan Road, but due to disputes between the family and other cotenants, they moved to the present address, No. 34, Hung Fuk Street, 2/F., Tokwawan, Kowloon, eight years ago where they shared a self- contained flat of 3 bed-rooms and a sitting room with an old couple, paying the total monthly rental of $480.

The home environment was about average.
It was
situated in a typical working-class residential area, with some small factories and a market on one side of the main road. According to family, members of the Prisoner, people around appeared to beof decent character, and they made friends with some families in the same building.

The Prisoner had been living out for about half of a year before the offence was committed. During this period, he stayed with some other Prisoners of the same case in a hut in Chai Wan.
ASSOCIATES
The Prisoner was not without friends of good character and respectable jobs whom he had formerly been closely associated with during the time he lived with his family. These friends included his neighbours and work/school associates, some of whom had been interviewed for the present report.
The other Prisoner in the same case were known to the Prisoner not more than three years, but they appeared to have the same taste of fun, such as motor-cycling, camping and gambling. After leaving his family, the Prisoner resided at the house belonging to one of them.

Mr. HO Kau (Father of the Prisoner)
Mr. HO admitted that he had given no control to the Prisoner and was not aware of his social activities, and that the Prisoner used to contribute about $300 p.m. to the family, until he lived out. Since then, the Prisoner had neither visited the family nor had he contributed any money. To the father the Prisoner was an irresponsible son whom he had found difficulties to deal with. He had not visited the Prisoner since he was arrested, saying that it would not do him any good.

Mrs. HO appeared to be protective. She was aware that the Prisoner had been living with his friends in Chai Wan before his arrest, and regretted that the Prisoner would have not committed
