NOTES FOR SUPPLEMENTARIES
1.
ARE WE SATISFIED WITH THE PROGRESS BEING MADE BY ICAC?
Yes. As I told the noble Lord in reply to his Question on the 4th of February, I have been impressed by the progress made by the Commission during its first year of
operation.
IN VIEW OF THE EXTENT OF CORRUPTION IN THE COLONY SHOULD NOT AN ENQUIRY FROM THE UK BE SET UP DIRECTLY BY HMG?
2.
The Independent Commission Against Corruption should be given the opportunity to show results. The Commission
has been in operation for little more than a year and in that time has accomplished much including an encouraging degree of public cooperation.
WHY DID THE ATTORNEY-GENERAL NOT PROSECUTE IN THE ONE CASE DROPPED BY HIS OFFICE?
3.
The Attorney-General was of the opinion that the act
in question did not constitute an offence.
(If pressed: There have been no other differences of opinion between the Operations Department of ICAC and the Attorney-General regarding any decision to prosecute.)
HOW MANY OF THE PROSECUTIONS BROUGHT SO FAR HAVE BEEN AGAINST POLICE OFFICERS?
4.
There have been 53 prosecutions against police officers
of reports by public to ICAC
