As indicated in Mr. Cater's letter of the 6th January, 1975 we are making efforts to identify and trace
which you probably realise is a diminu- tive for a Chinese name.
We are proceeding very cautiously, so as not to expose our interest prematurely, and therefore would like to be reasonably sure of
" identity before we try
to locate and interview him.
We have been able to obtain photographs of all the civilians employed at Hung Hom Police Station over the period relevant to Mr. Ellis' complaint; there are eighteen and these are attached on the enclosed three sheets. The person we think might be "Ah LAM" is No. 10, and we would like you to arrange for Mr. Ellis to see the photographs and see if he can identify the person concerned, - in.this connection we would have no objection to the photographs being sent to Mr. Ellis if it is inconvenient for him to come to London.
