Mr James Johnson (Kingston-upon-Hull West): To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement concerning the extradition of Police Superintendent George Godber to Hong Kong and, in particular, the charge which is made against him.
Following the necessary legal proceedings, ex-Chief Superintendent Godber was returned to Hong Kong on 6 January. Under the provisions of the Fugitive Offenders Act, the long Kong Government had applied for his return on two charges: firstly, that he had in March 1971 corruptly received the sum of 25,000 Hong Kong dollars from a then serving officer in the Hong Kong police named
and secondly, that he had
to secure
conspired to accept a bribe from appointment as a Divisional Superintendent.
