THE ROLE OF THE ROYAL NAVY IN HONG KONG

1. The primary role of the naval forces in

Hong Kong is to assist in maintaining the authority

of the Hong Kong Government in Colony waters in

the face of armed Chinese gunboats which enjoy

free passage through Colony waters.

Their secondary role is to sustain the

confidence of the people of the Colony in HMG's

intention to maintain the British position in

Hong Kong by:

2. Providing patrols of Colony waters by

up to 2 patrol craft continuously on task

in support of the Marine Police and other

Government agencies.

b. Providing advice and assistance for

search and rescue and diving operations,

psychological operations, community relations

projects and aid to the civil power.

In addition Captain-in-Charge Hong Kong is

responsible to the Admiralty Board for providing
