CLOSURE OF 117 SU HONG KONG AND CONTINUED PROVISION OF ATC FACILITIES AT KAI TAK

We spoke on the telephone about the best way to action the Hong Kong Telegram No. 745 of 31 July and we agreed that it would be appropriate for MODUK to signal CRAF HK telling them we thought that for the time being the negotiation of a new spares agreement should be undertaken in Hong Kong. MOD UK would nevertheless activate the British Defence Staff in Washington if negotiations broke down.

LABT

The attached signal, which is self explanatory, was sent today and you may wish to draw on it in replying to the 745 telegram.
