79. Defence Budget estimates for 1975-6 total £4,548 million,

which represent per cent of GNP. The difference in money

terms of £848 million is accounted for by pay and price changes

over the past year. The size of the programme remains unchanged.

THE REMAINDER OF THIS WHITE PAPER

80. The main purpose of the remainder of this Statement (Chapter II-

VIT) is to report on the state of Britain's defence forces, their

activities, deployment and equipment, over the past two years since

the publication of the last Statement on the Defence Estimates 1973

(Cmnd. 5231), and before Defence Review decisions were taken. But

where appropriate the implications of the Defence Review decisions.

set out in this chapter are described in subsequent chapters.
