Persian Gulf and the Far East.

Within the Central Treaty Organisation

(CENTO), aircraft of the Near East Air Force participated in major

air defence and maritime air exercises in the Persian Gulf area.

A Royal Air Force Hercules and a Mountain Rescue team also took

part in the annual CENTO Search and Rescue Exercise, NEJAT, which

this year took place in Iran. In 1974, the United Kingdom was the

host for NISHAN, the annual CENTO small arms competition.

75. About 700 Loan Service personnel are serving with foreign and

Commonwealth forces, and, in addition, overseas students

have attended courses of instruction in the United Kingdom.
