The reorganisation of the garrison will not be complete until 1977/8 when the fourth Gurkha Battalion is planned to replace one of the two UK battalions Additional costs in 1976/7 arising from this amount to about £3m.

The cost of a frigate refit in 1977/8 (£2.5m) is excluded.

The Navy figure excludes a share of the capital cost of new patrol craft, which are still under examination. If Bird class patrol boats are purchased, the total cost would be £4.2M which might be spread equally over the 5 years 1976/7 to 1980/81.
