Mr. Collins was another HoD with a problem teacher.

This was

Mr. R.H. Child, an apparently plausible individual who had bouts

of insanity, and was to be boarded.

15. The most important 1975 vacancy would be Mr. Hadfield's/post, as he planned to retire in June. In addition four lecturers would be.

required, and for reasons already mentioned, Mr. Hadfield insisted

that they must be single persons.

Building and Surveying Department Mr. R.D. Stringer

Mr. Stringer made no mention of the fact that some months ago

he had nearly resigned: indeed he at once assured me he was very

happy in his work, and his manner gave every indication that this

was true.

17. His department consisted of 20 staff, half of whom, at the

Senior Lecturer level and above, were expatriates mostly British.

He was hoping to recruit the following in 1975:

18. One of Mr. Stringer's British Lecturers, Mr. A. Fielding, had

resigned because he could not live on the salary, although his

wife had an office job in the Polytechnic. Unfortunately, my discussion with Mr. Stringer, a friendly communicative person who is well-known to TETOC, was curtailed by pressure of time. (8) Civil & Structural Engineering Department Mr. D.J. Peke

19. Mr. Peke who is 60 years of age had only recently been

recruited by TETOC. As far as he and his wife were concerned, he

was very happy with his new job. His staff consisted of fourteen

Chinese and one American. In addition, he is looking forward to

receiving Miss Addison, recruited by TETOC.
