renew their first two-year contracts when they expired. I had
the impression that a great deal of the trouble stemmed from the
lack of leadership and attention to administrative questions by
the previous Director: correspondingly that if the staff were
rightly handled by a new Director skilled in man-management, it
could make a world of difference. When it comes to the crunch,
it may happen that comparatively few staff will actually leave.
On the other hard if Dr. Legg is unable to make progress on the
salary scale for lecturers and concessions on summer leave I
would expect staff morale to remain low.
