microfilm equipment).

A technical educationist from Britain would visit Hong Kong

in the next two months to discuss the proposals to provide microfilm equipment, audio-visual aids, and a metrology laboratory.

Mr Mark would inform the Chairman of the Projects Committee of the outcome of this recommendation.

5. Mr Smith would ascertain from the British Council whether it could handle - a book order of this size and also establish from Aid Policy Department

whether books published by British publishers in Hong Kong could be purchased from aid funds. On the basis of this information he would draft an appropriate section on book procurement for inclusion in the letter to Hong Kong.

6. Dr Pickard is due to visit the Far East in the near future but the timing of his visit depends on the date of appointment of a technical education adviser in the Development Division in Bangkok. Mr Hunting would discuss with the Director-General of TETOC the possibility of his visiting Hong Kong should Dr Pickard's visit be delayed.

7.

There was also a brief discussion on the £400,000 aid to four technical institutes in Hong Kong and it was suggested that the Technical Education Adviser should also discuss the formulation of proposals arising from this undertaking while he was in Hong Kong. The intention was not necessarily that £100,000 should be spent at each institution but that the money be allocated among institutions according to the best use to which it could be put. Separate proposals for each institution would be submitted. These would probably be regarded as individual proposals which fell below the Projects Committee's limits, though professional advice and financial clearance would be no less necessary. Mr Mark would report to the Chairman on this point also. The Morrison Hill Technical Institute was now complete while two of the other institutes were expected to be completed in 1975 and the fourth in 1976.
