Mel Crofton has passed your letter of 17 January to me as he is no longer directly involved on the Hong Kong front.
2.
You have asked for our comments on the revised draft projects committee submission but without more information on the Polytechnic's academic and building development plans, and specifically, on the proposed audio visual aids development and metrology courses, our general comments remain those given by Gordon Hunting in the enclosure to his letter of 2 October 1973 to Mr Stewart. We would, therefore, be grateful to have a copy of the annexes to the draft submission and also of recent papers from Hong Kong.
3. While Gordon Hunting does not feel able to give his professional support to the submission (as he does not have sufficient information on which to base a judgement) he is in no doubt that £500,000 aid funds could properly and effectively be spent on the Polytechnic; and that the proposed allocation between the library and equipment is reasonable. He comments that it would seem desirable that expenditure on equipment should be concentrated in one or two areas and it might be that metrology is one such area but no case/justification has yet been made out.
