Thank you for your letter of 5 February about the possible purchase of print shop equipment of German and Swiss origin for the Hong Kong Polytechnic.
I understand from our Export Services and Promotions Division, that there is no UK alternative to the one thread book sewing machine, and I there- fore have no objection to the purchase of the model detailed on your list (item 2). However, there are ÜK-manufactured equivalents to the remaining two items under query and I attach a list of the manufacturers. As there are UK-manufactured alternatives to items one and eight available, I cannot agree to the purchase of foreign items.
