APPLICATION OF INTERNATIONAL LABOUR CONVENTIONS TO HONG KONG

1.

Further to recent minutes concerning the application of Convention No 5 to Hong Kong in which it was agreed that a formal meeting should be arranged with Mr Ian Price, the Labour Commissioner, you may wish to know that Mr Price telephoned me this afternoon.

2. Mr Price's main concern was with Convention No 95 in respect of which we suggested in a recent saving telegram to the Governor, that there would be advantage in discussing the degree of application with Mr Price whilst he was in the UK. It appears that he proposes to take leave in Spain immediately after the Conference but will be in the UK for about two days from 7 July, before returning to Hong Kong. If you could let me know before I leave for Geneva on 6 June whether it would be convenient for Mr O'Keeffe and yourselves to see Mr Price on or about 7 July, I will make a definite arrangement with him whilst we are both in Geneva (Mr Foggon will of course be seeing Mr Price during the Conference).
