imports which might be being dumped, he would act to try and stop such durping. He stressed that the Government did not regard the textile, clothing and footwear industries as expendable. If the TUC could show ways of beating imports through Government help to improve efficiency, modernisation and research in these industries, he would try and get Government money to help with this. If the TUC had any additional thoughts, he hoped that they would let either the Departments concerned or himself know as soon as possible. He hoped that the immediate measures being taken now would be first steps towards an ongoing support for the industry, and that the initial results of the Government's concern would be announced shortly he hoped before the Summer Recess.
