Dear David

EXPENDITURI COMMITTIE

DEASC VISIT TO HONG KONG AND OTDR PLACES

1. I attach a copy of a letter dated 14 Kay from Douglas Millar in which you will see that the DASC's latest thoughts, to some extent inspired by Brigadier Hunt's wanderlust, involve considerable FCO interest.

2.

lie have managed to get the DIASC to drop its interest in Singapore but Teheran has begun to emerge as the lynchpin (if you will allow the expression) for the second part of the tour. You will notice that the Chairman believes that it "would be an interesting place to visit". The DIASC's justification for going there is, however, more difficult to divine.

3. I think we can now discard Diego Garcia and I hope that,in time, we can take the DLASU's attention away from Hasirah but 1 gather that the Sub-Committee is still anxious to call there, if only briefly.

4. I should be grateful if we could discuss some of the possibilities after you have had a chance to consider them.

Yours Vector Beukan.
