visit of the Defence and External Affairs Sub- Committee of the Expenditure Committee of the House of Commons, which is due in the second half of November. The scope of the committee's interest has been set out by signal from the MOD to the CBF of which I attach a copy, and this has been expanded in your tels. 506 and 514 to me.

As you can imagine these questions are relevant to how we set about answering some of its questions, for instance, comparison between the situation in Hong Kong and Macau, or the internal administration of the Colony and the role of the Governor.
Denys Roberts will be in the UK and expects to call at the FCO in about a fortnight, and will be getting in touch with O'Keeffe. The object of this letter is to let you know that I have advised him to have a talk with you about this visit and how he should handle it.
