Dear Stuart,
I confirm that the Governor of Hong Kong would be free to attend a meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party's Foreign Affairs Group in the House of Commons at 5 p.m. on Thursday 4 December.
As I mentioned to you, there is a similar suggestion that the Governor should meet the International Committee of the NEC. You expressed the opinion to me that the Foreign Affairs Group would have no objection to a joint meeting with the International Committee, and would welcome any trade unionists from that Committee who could attend the meeting with the Governor.
This goes very much along the lines of Jim Callaghan's thinking, since he is of the opinion that a joint meeting would provide a more respectable gathering in terms of numbers for the Governor to address, and would
