The Hong Kong Trade Development Council is sending a mannequin show of the products of the Hong Kong garment industry to the Ready to Wear presentation in Paris in early April. It is being staged by Julius Schofield of Indesign and is subsequently being shown in London at the Hong
Kong Government office at 6 Grafton Street at 6 p.m. on Thursday, 10th April.
I am confident the show will be first- rate and hopefully it should impress people in Paris and London with the high quality of Hong Kong clothes. We intend to make a social occasion of the presentation at the Grafton Street office, which is a most attractive old Adams house. My wife and I will host the presentation and various people from Hong Kong will be coming for it, including Sir Yuet-keung Kan, who HRH may remember.
We would all be honoured and delighted if HRH felt able to attend as our guest of honour. Not more than an hour would be involved..
Sir Yuet-keung Kan and I intend to use our presence in London to try and come to grips.with some of the more blood curdling stories about Hong Kong now current in the UK media, however the· presentation in Grafton Street would be for clothes only.
In case you wish to consult the FCO I am sending a copy of this letter to Andrew Stuart of the Hong Kong and Indian Ocean Department.
