Thank you for your letter about the Hong Kong fashion show. We have passed the enclosure to Sir Murray MacLehose.

You may like to see the letter which Sir Duncan Watson has written to him on the same subject. You will notice that we have not even mentioned Paris, as the advice of the Ambassador was against doing so.

Sir Murray will be disappointed. But I am sure that in the circumstances the advice and the Princess's decision were right; and Sir Murray knows the UK scene well enough to realise the force of what we have now said to him.
