London faces a number of problems which are not easy to be solved:-
The problem in deciding whether public housing should be sold or not.
Whether more office blocks should be built with better priority than
domestic dwellings (Sir Reg. Goodwin, Leader of the Greater London Council, said in
the booklet 'London: The Future and You' that "We cannot accept office blocks which
replace essential homes when a million Londoners are inadequately housed.").

The current shortage of dwelling is about 200,000.
100,000 old dwellings are beyond improvement.
Over 300,000 dwellings face shortage of modern requirements, for
instance, separate bathroom and/or water closet.

Many of the housing estates need amendities such as play areas, car
parks and gardens.

Londoners have many needs and aspirations that cannot be met, for
instance, relating to problems of fitting the homes and the types of dwellings
available. Londoners want "a home which is adequate in size for their needs, in a
fit state, obtainable within their means and possessing the amenities of modern
living, set in an acceptable environment and a choice of jobs within reach of home by
adequate transport facilities, matching the skills they each can offer, and affording
them the chance of bettering their incomes and living standard" (Sir Reg. Goodwin).
A special London problem lies in the large number of single person
households who live mostly in private rented accommodation of which there is an

acute shortage.

Many Londoners decide to move from rented to owner-occupied homes.
