There are also regulations which ban the selling or use of the flesh of dogs for food. Under these regulations anyone found guilty of an offence can be fined up to HK$1,000 (approx. £83) and to imprisonment for six months. There are similar penalties for people convicted of cruelty to animals.

There is continuing interest in this subject and we receive fairly frequently letters from the public and from interested

societies.
