If any feeling exists that Ilong Kong's interests in negotiations on landing rights in Hong Kong are neglected, it is unjustified.

In the recent

negotiations with the Japanese Government over landing rights in Hong Kong for Japan Airlines, the interests of all parties were fully weighed.

In

air services negotiations a special regard is paid to Hong Kong interests, particularly her increasing interest in tourism.

UNIONS

Have there been renewed contacts with the Chinese Government on the possibility of opening a direct passenger train service from Hong Kong to Canton? If not, will this matter be raised with the Chinese Authorities?

(Direct Train Service) No. We have no present plans to raise the matter with the Chinese Government.

Similarly, have any discussions been held to allow an air or sea service between Hong Kong and China?

(Air/sea services) No such discussions have been held.

29.

Would you like to see trade unionism developed in Hong Kong?

It seems to me that trade unionism is already developed in Hong Kong. I understand that at the end of last year you had no fewer than 283 registered trade unions. What seems to be needed is some rationalisation of the trade union structure to reduce fragmentation and a multiplicity of unions and make them more effective.
