U.K. Relations With China

Question:

Minister:

Could I ask you if you think it would be desirable for Hong Kong, through the British Government to approach the People's Republic of China about the possibility of co-

operation in the construction of the mass transit railway system?

I would have to take that very important question under advice. I do not wish to make any kind of response to that off-the-cuff. I recognise its importance. I am

grateful to you for raising it. But it is not what I could

give you anything like a definitive answer to now. Relations between United Kingdom and China are very good indeed and we anticipate that they will continue to be very good and indeed go on improving.
