Chinese Representative in H.K.

I have nothing new to say on this. I have recently refreshed myself before I left about the position. The position is that there have been no recent discussions between us and the Chinese Government about their proposal for the establishment of a representative here. We shall not take a new initiative, any initiative. The position seems to be that there is no proposal on the table.

In reply to another question on whether the Chinese have dropped the proposal:

Minister:

I have not the slightest idea. It is entirely for them to decide. All I know is that there have not been recent

discussions.

I don't know of any impending discussions on this.
