VISA FOR HUNGARIAN RED CROSS OFFICIAL

I enclose a self-explanatory batch of telegrams about our refusal to grant a visa to Mr REZSO SZTOCHLIK, a Hungarian national working for the League of International Red Cross Societies.

2.

After our decision had been conveyed to Mr Sztochlik by the Embassy in Manila, the British Red Cross Society, through the Hong Kong Red Bross, surfaced and said that Sztochlik was known to them. They asked the Hong Kong Red Cross to sponsor him.

3.

As the visit was a private one this would not have changed the decision; and there was in any case little point in unscrambling the situation once the visa had been refused. But you should be aware of the matter in case the British Red Cross Society come back at you over this case.
