HONG KONG MASS TRANSIT SYSTEM
1.
On 4 January I submitted a draft minute from the Secretary
f State to the Prime Minister in response to the Secretary of
State for Trade and Industry's minute of 14 December. This
followed Mr Grattan's submission to the Secretary of State of
20 December, and the Secretary of State's comments of 31 December
on my minute setting out the times when the Governor and the
FCO had urged the DTI to take action to improve the Anglo-Italian
1943. bid.
2. Mr Youde and I discussed this with Mr Royle when he said
goodbye on 8 January, and he suggested some additions and
amendments.
3. I submit a revised draft minute to take account of this,
agreed with Mr Youde. I suggest that, since Mr Royle has already
considered the matter, and in view of the lapse of time and
complexity of the question, this might be submitted direct to
Private Office, through the PUS.
