THE ROLE OF STATISTICS IN THE PLANNING
AND DELIVERY OF HEALTH SERVICES
Background Paper prepared by the Government of Hong Kong
The Government is collecting relatively comprehensive
epidemiological and demographic data for planning, control and evaluation
purposes. Notification of infectious and other diseases does present some
problems because of under-notification from private doctors. Registration
of births and deaths is practically complete and presents no problems.
2.
The Medical and Health Department is introducing a scheme to
computerise all hospital records with a view to standardise the system of
reporting and reviewing the requirements for medical development. There
is no need to introduce changes in the organisation, purely a matter of
expansion of the Medical Statistics Unit.
