IMPACT OF URBANISATION, INDUSTRIALISATION, MECHANISATION AND POLLUTION ON HEALTH PROBLEMS

The Medical and Health Department of Hong Kong is the adviser on all health aspects of national planning, and is a member of the Advisory Committee on Environmental Pollution.

The number of motor accidents is increasing despite repeated publicity/ education campaigns but greater efforts will be made to reduce accidents of
all kinds.
3. The Government is becoming more and more concerned about cigarette smoking and a Working Party on Smoking has recently submitted its report to the Government on the various aspects of cigarette smoking. Alcoholism is not a problem in Hong Kong. The Government is determined to fight drug dependence. Overcrowding in the urban areas has a tremendous impact on the health problems of the island.

The Medical and Health Department is capable of handling both preventive and clinical services.
