Present provision. At present there are 2,210 beds available of which all but 10 are in Government hospitals, mostly at Castle Peak.
Planned additions. 28 beds are to be made available in the United Christian Hospital, Phase II, in 1974 and Government is planning a second mental hospital of 1,304 beds for opening in 1976.
Proposed closures. 679 of the existing Government beds are temporary additions in overcrowded wards. Ideally these should all be eliminated but the gap between provision and need is so great that some 300 are likely to remain in use over the next decade.

H-Geriatric
Present provision. Currently geriatric care is provided in the general medical wards in chronic hospitals. There is no specific provision for geriatrics.
