UN NARCOTICS ADVISER IN IRAN
Not smol.
1. I enclose a copy of a letter I have written to the ODM after consultation with our Mission in New York on the above post.
2. As you see Kenneth Stacey is the preferred candidate and we must now wait to see if there are any problems in him being released from his present post and if indeed he is interested in this one.
3. Michael Stuart, who has taken over from Kate Whalley as Treasury Adviser in New York, has told me that he regards Norman
olph as our second choice. However I believe there is some doubt about his health and that he might well prefer retirement to taking up the post in Iran should 3tacey not be interested. should be grateful therefore for any further views you may have to those in your very useful letter DDA 65/3/74/9 of 28 August in order to establish whether we should regard Rolph as an available candidate worthy of our nomination.
4. I am copying this letter to Alan Wotton in Hong Kong and Indian Ocean Department.
